The cases listed below are cases that Lee Hunt has handled over the last ten years. Although the settlements are generally confidential, all of the cases listed involved significant settlements, including settlements in the millions of dollars.

Hospital Security Verdict

Three security guards at St. Vincent Hospital tackled a schizophrenic patient who was experiencing a mental health crisis. The patient suffered a dislocated and broken hip and underwent two surgeries.  Hunt Law Firm attorneys presented the case to a jury and received a $9,000,000 verdict, including $5,000,000 for punitive damages. 

Hunting Incident – Jury Verdict

Hunt Law Firm clients were hunting along a fence line. Hunters at a neighborhood ranch fired at two elk and bullet fragments hit two brothers. Before trial the insurance company offered $180,000. The jury returned a verdict of $5,256,000.


Medical Malpractice – Wrongful Death

Instead of taking the mounting complaints of a 62-year-old woman seriously, the medical staff at Roswell Medical Center passed the patient off to multiple doctors without anyone diagnosing her urinary tract problems. She got infected and died from the delay in proper care. The verdict in the case was $2,438,000


Underinsured Motorist Claim

A mailman was seriously injured and expected his insurance company to treat him fairly. Instead, he had to take them to Court. The offer before trial was $600,000. The jury verdict was over $1,250,000.


Police Pursuit – Jury Verdict

The Santa Fe Police Department improperly chased a car driving 80 mph down a residential street. The driver crashed into our client causing permanent injuries. The case settled against a car dealership where the car was stolen from and a jury returned a verdict against the police in the amount of $1,350,000.


Medical Malpractice Verdict

When the primary care doctor failed to diagnose pressure on the spinal cord called Cauda Equina Syndrome, the patient suffered permanent nerve damage. With no offer before trial, a jury verdict was returned in favor of the patient in the amount of $803,500.


Slip and Fall – Jury Verdict

Our client fell at a local restaurant due to water spilled by the wait staff. The case went to trial after the insurance company only offered $120,000. The jury returned a verdict of over $550,000.


Workplace Injury – Movie Production – Crane Accident

Lee represented a young woman who was severally injured due to the failure to have a safe place for her to work.  The case was fought against one of the biggest movie production companies in the world and a local crane company.  Both defendants fought the case.  After an initial offer of $5,000, the case was eventually resolved for a substantial amount right before trial. 


Spinal Cord Injury – Paralysis

Lee represented a woman who was rendered paraplegic due to medical negligence.  Due to the client contacting Lee immediately upon realizing something was wrong, he was able to discover alteration of records.  The alteration and cover-up turned out to be the key for resolving the case.  After a year and a half of fighting, the case was favorably resolved. 


Nursing Home Neglect

 Lee worked with the family of a woman who had been neglected in the nursing home.  While at a nursing home she had been dropped numerous times and broke her leg when it got caught in the rails of her bed.  Despite the break, she was not taken care of for several days.  A claim was made against the nursing home and a settlement was reached.


Automobile Products Liability – Rollover Accident

A man was killed when he was ejected during a rollover accident. Lee helped prove that his client was belted and that the seat belt malfunctioned. After filing suit and proceeding through discovery, one of the Big Three auto manufacturers agreed to pay a substantial settlement. The case settled for a confidential amount


Automobile Products Liability – Spinal Cord Injury – Paraplegia

Lee Hunt represented a young man who was rendered a paraplegic in a rollover. The main defect claims involved a seat back failure and glazing claims. The case was filed in San Miguel County and after extensive discovery and motions practice, the case settled for a confidential amount. The settlement enabled our client to move on with his life, including going back to school and finding financial independence.


Medical Negligence – Drug Overdose

Lee Hunt represented the estate of a young man who died as a result of a prescription drug overdose. We brought suit against the physician for the prescription of Fentanyl. The case was hard fought and we were prepared to present the case to the jury. On the Courthouse steps, the insurance company agreed to pay a substantial settlement. The amount remains confidential.


Casino Lawsuit For Drunk Driving Damages:

Lee Hunt helped bring suit on behalf of a young girl suffering catastrophic injuries in a car accident involving a drunk driver. Suit was filed against the casino in which the driver was drinking alleging a dram shop claim. After defeating motions to dismiss based on sovereign immunity, the case was settled for a confidential amount.


Workplace Injury – Construction Site – Crane Accident:

Lee Hunt represented a client who was an ironworker that was catastrophically injured while working on a construction project at the Los Alamos National Laboratory. He was injured when a steel staircase fell from a crane and partially landed on him. He suffered many broken bones and is permanently impaired. Suit was filed against numerous defendant and was hard fought. Shortly before trial, the case settled with all of the defendants accepting financial responsibility. The settlement enabled our client to purchase a home and move on with his life, despite the loss of his ability to go back to work as an ironworker.
